  • Jaina Solo

I wasn’t present on the class about Jaina Solo, which is a pitty. Which means that I had to do all research on my own. Now, jaina Solo had very famous parents, Han Solo and Leia Organa. I personally believe that a lot of people put a lot of expectations in front of her just because of her ‘prominent’ parents. Having famous parents can be probably quite hard. Now, I was acknowledged that I should write what I think Jaina is, by her most famous act of killing her own brother, Darth Caedus.

I will be blunt. Jaina was a hero. Darth Caedus, who used to be a Jedi longing for peace because way too blind to others. His own determination, focus; they are good tools, but not when they blind someone to point they stop listening to advices of others. Jacen Solo was slowly turning into Darth Caedus, becoming more and more ruthless in his actions. And he still believed to be *correct* and believed he was working for ‘greater peace’. Many people died because of him. And it’s needed to be said that he was quite powerful. The Council of that day sent Jaina to deal with him. I do believe she struggled inside, but she was aware of the danger her brother posed for everyone. I did some research, and found out that Jaina Solo even went to train under famous bounty hunter called Boba Fett - who never liked the Jedi; just so she would be better prepared to face her brother. She had to forget a big part of herself when fighting Darth Caedus. He was after all, her brother. But her personal emotions; she didn’t let them to cloud her mind, because there was Galaxy at stake.

Jaina can be seen as villian. For a Jedi, she’s been through so many wars, she had to kill. As we know, Jedi should resort to killing as the last thing. It may seem that Jaina was killing on every corner, by looking on the Archive records. That can be frowned upon and can be one of reasons why Jaina could be seen as ‘villain’.

Another reason which could make Jaina a villain is the ruthlessness with which she killed her brother, Jacen Solo, who turned into Darth Caedus. There could be surely argumented that she could find another solutuion than to simply kill him. Killing is one of the most easy solitions in fact, but less moral, least Jedi-like. She killed Caedus without even thinking about other solutions of dealing with him.

My own bottom line: Wars do not make anyone a hero. Wars only mean that there’s a lot of killing on both sides. But wars need to be dealt with. Diplomatic solutions cannot be always achieved and then it’s time to draw our lightsabers and protect the Peace. We are not training to be warriors just for the fun of it. We are not warriors out of lust for war. We are warriors out of need and necessary, so we serve better to the Force and protecting life.
