  • ~Assignment: Jedi Code
    The first precept~

    Quote:
    There’s no Emotion, there’s Peace

    Or other version says

    Quote:
    Emotion, yet Peace.

Master Stomi gave me an assignment to write what does the first precept mean for me. To explain how I see it, as well as to write why do I think he gave me this assignment in particular to write. I do realize that I struggle with keeping my emotions at the bay. Especially with recent events, I struggle even more. Usually, I was able to keep my emotions aside, to not let them to cloud my mind, but recently, with all these happenings, I seem to struggle.

The first line of the Jedi Code teaches, that we, as a Jedi shouldn’t allow the emotions to cloud our minds. To let them affect our decisions. It doesn’t deny us to have emotions. Emotions, at least to me are what make us living beings, sentients. Emotions differ us from droids and non-living things. It is literally impossible to deny emotions. The first precept makes us to be aware of our emotions. To know them. To control them. Only with mind at peace, we are able to allow the Force to flow through us. It teaches us the control, as control is one of the most important pillars in achieving greater attunement to the Force.

There could be many examples, why this line of the Code is important for Jedi. People do harsh decisions when acting under anger, fear, lust… I could go on. There are many emotions, which can negatively cloud our judgement. Acting under influence of emotions causes many ‘bad’ outcomes and may result in making faulty decisions.

I believe that Master Ergo gave me this assignment, so I would become more aware of my own problem. My problem with controlling myself. To become aware of my emotions, to get knowing them, to learn from them and later, with training, to control them fully. I know what for example anger can do to me. I know what for example anger can do even to one of Masters. I know it will take me time to learn from this, but I am aware that I cannot ignore that problem. So, I’d say, the sole purpose of this assignment was to remind me, to make me aware what to strive for during my Jedi training. Being aware of the problem is the very first step in progressing and then working on fixing the problem is second necessary step.
