  • Mike Havok

    (Jedi Knight)

Master Alkorda gave us an assignment to look up and write about one of the original ‘Lost ones’. I chose Mike Havok for a good reason.

Jedi Knight Mike Havok started his training from someone, who was corrupted to the core, following the teachings of the ‘dark side’. While i believe that the force has no sides on it’s own, I do believe that using the Force for selfish reasons and to hurt others is wrong and after some time of doing that, one may simple become corrupt, become ‘tainted’ and their personality is affected. It’s worth of an essay itself. Mike Havok eventually saw through that man and his wrong attitude and decided that he wouldn’t go any further that way. He had inner conflict inside himself, but he decided to seek out for the serenity and peace within himself.

During that time of struggles, he met Jedi Master Axem Keigoku. That was his start of path of becoming a Jedi, and he realized how little he knew about the Force. Mike Havok learnt that the ‘light side’ is what he sought for. It was what brought him inner peace. Within years, Mike Havok turned into wise Jedi Knight, taking an apprentice of his own, Erue. He trained his apprentice sucesfully and saw him to pass his Trials.

At that point, struggles within him called again. It is not clear from the Archives, as to what the reason was. I simply believe that he was afraid of having no purpose, after his old apprentice became a Jedi Knight. That leads to doubts about one self’s worth and ultimately may lead to closing away from others, having time to ponder on thoughts long forgotten. With that, mike Havok left the Academy, as he didn’t want to spread his ‘taint’ to others.

It came on the surface later, that he still felt some kind of connection to his first mentor, the one, who was corrupted and who tried to teach young Mike Havok, before he met Master Axem Keigoku. Eventually, he found that old master of his. The archives do not say clearly if he confronted him in battle, but it says, that Mike Havok finally was able to let go of his ‘dark’ past. He was free from Dark Side ‘binds’, the last remnants. He conquered them and they no longer had any impact on him.

That is why he searched for his apprentice, Erue, to find out he became a formidable Jedi Master and also member of the High council. I personally believe that itself had to make Mike Havok to feel proud. Not only he conquered his inner fears, shadows and even the ‘dark side’ within him, but he managed to train one promising student, who now served to the will of the Force on the High Council.

I chose this particulat Jedi Knight, because I believe that everyone faces their own ‘inner shadows’. This Jedi Knight showed us all, that it is possible to face them and win. Inspiration for the generations coming. Wish that the Archives would be more specific as to what happened to him, after he returned to the Jedi order…
