Kuat Drive Yards

Alright, I finally managed to find something, what picked my interest and I decided to use that for my assignment from Master Feraan. I guess i’m not too good with economic-related subjects, as i had rather hard time with this one. I decided to do an assignment about a company, rather than their single project, because I see that they brought many benefits to the galaxy, mainly due to their variable products scale.

I’m talking about Kuat Drive Yards here - apparently one of the most known shipbuilding companies across the Galaxy. Of course, my knowledge of them is based solely on what I found on HoloNet, as with the memory loss, I basically had to start my research from the scratch. Without further, there goes the assignment.

Assignment:

Consumers are surrounded by many important products. No matter what value you place on material objects, you more than likely have access to many time-saving, innovative products. Choose one of the companies that have produced an innovative product within the last millenium. Then in a writing assignment that is at least two well-developed paragraphs in length, answer the following questions.

1) Who was the person or team who created the company?

The Ten - team consisted of aristocratic families all over the Core Worlds. After forming the Galactic Republic, The Ten colonized Kuat - their sole intent was to create the biggest shipbuilding company in the galaxy. The Ten is the founding team of Kuat Drive Yards.

The company has following ‘divisions’:

Rothana Heavy Engineering - their main aim are capital ships, combat vehicles, and gunships
Kuat Leisure - their main focus was on civillian vessels
Kuat Vehicles - they manufacture various airspeeders, landspeeders and speeder bikes
Kuat Systems Engineering - Designed ’starfighter’ class and light patrol craft
Chempat Engineered Defenses - responsible for designing starship shield generators

2) As the entrepreneurs of the company, how did they combine the factors of production to make life easier or more convenient for citizens?

They serve as one of the main companies, offering high scale of products (related to vehicless, ships, etc..) to the people. From military crafts to civillian vehicles, such as simple speeders, speeder bikes, to crafts which helps to maintain security on the various planets.

3) Identify at least three benefits of purchasing and using this product.

People’s transport - their production of speeders and other civillian vehicles used for transport to civillian space crafts designed for inter-planet travel
Goods transport - They provide cargo ships for transport of various goods. That itself makes them valuable for many traders across the galaxy
Military support - Due to the company being designers of various fighter-class ships and even vehicles such as LAAT/i (manufactured by Rothana Heavy Engineering), they provide a solid improvement of planet’s security.

4) Can you think of any drawbacks to purchasing and using this product?

Not really. Of course, the military-based products can set a drawback on the GA, if they are sold into hands of someone, who’d wish to put the current system into danger.

5) Describe how scarcity could affect a consumer interested in buying this product.

Scarcity would mean less vehicles to choose from, less ships and that could lead to transport problems, eventually, if the merchants would not purchase their transport cargo ships, they’d slow down even more products delivery and that would lead to complete economic slow down. Not to mention even if the military didn’t purchase their products, they’d be less effective, and that could lead to riots and problems either on the planet concerned or even galaxy-wide problem.

6) Describe how shortage could affect a consumer interested in buying this product.

I’m a firm believer that the shortage would have very similar effect on the people, as the scarcity. While the reasons of shortage may be and are different, in the end, there’s simply lack of supply of the product in the needed amount. Be it because the company slowed down their production, because their supplies didn’t arrive on time, or be it because people do not have credits for the purchase of their products, therefore they don’t manufacture in such numbers, or - on the contrary, if the consumers buy more of their products than they manufacture. From consumer’s eyes, I’d not see a difference in the effect it would have in the end from scarcity problem.
